Online dating is great for meeting people from different countries. By typing in a detailed profile, it’s simple to narrow those down into people who share you likes and dislikes or hobbies, and who fit your ‘search criteria’. 1. Trust your feelings and don’thurry to fast

When something doesn’t feel right, trust that instinct and listen to your inner voice. Read through the profiles carefully and get a feel for the people behind them. Don’t take it too fast and don’t give away too much personal information. Remember you still don’t really know this person! Don’t even think about meeting the person unless, it all feels right and don’t rush into it!

2. Use a free email account like yahoo

If you decide to move your communication method to email, then create a free email account with hotmail, yahoo or gmail that you can use solely for that purpose. Don’t put your full name in the account, and protect all the other details. That way if anything does go wrong with any of your contacts, you still have your privacy.

3. Ask for a recent photograph

There’s nothing wrong with asking for up-to-date photos, as it is important that you know what your ‘date’ looks like. To make sure that your date really does look like they say they do, you can ask them to take a picture of themselves doing something… like, standing in his/her garden, or eating an ice-cream. With this method, they will be forced to take a photo to send to you, and it will make it more difficult for them to supply a photo to you that is not really of them. If they won’t do it, or say they can’t then you’d be right to feel suspicious.

4. Only use the paid online dating services

Free online dating has the possibility for more potentially dangerous situations, as they do not have to provide a credit card or any other form of ID. They could literally be ‘anyone’. As my grandma always used to say ‘you get what you pay for’.

5. If you meet up

Ensure that it is in a busy public place. Do not arrange for your ‘date’ to pick you up, and stick to public transport. Tell a friend or friends where you are going to be, and maybe arrange for them to call you at a specific time during your ‘date’ with a prearranged code word, so that you can let them know if things are not going well, and you need ‘rescuing’.
